TEAMWORK

1 Corinthians 12:4-6 tells us, “Our gifts are to be used for the building of the Church.” This is a reminder that God uses His gifts through us to build His Kingdom. It’s not out of our own efforts, but God’s. Paul tells us to remember to take our place on the team. Our faith is best expressed when we serve together, because amazing things happen when we work together. As Mother Teresa once said, “I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot; Together we can do great things.”

What are the amazing things that happen when we work together?

Lives are transformed;

Disciples are made;

Lifelong relationships are developed.

Ultimately, it allows community to occur in which we build lives together. It is important that each person knows their role and what they bring to the table. When people know what they bring and use it in a team effort, it creates synergy. Synergy is very powerful; it’s momentum, it’s passion, it’s enthusiasm, and it’s excitement. It brings a sense of community. So, how do we utilize our giftings? By serving and being a part of a team; whether that’s on the worship team, parking lot team, snacks team, set up and tear down team, security team, VIP team, or rally team. It’s so important to get people connected on a team. If people find a connection to a team, then they will take ownership in the area of ministry they are a part of. I once heard a story about horse pulling contests held at state fairs around the country. The organizers put weight on a sled and hitch a horse up to it to see how much they could pull. One Belgian horse can pull about 8,000 pounds. However, when you yoke another horse to the first, the two can pull more than 20,000 pounds working together. People working together are able to accomplish more than someone working alone. That is why Psalm 133:1 expresses, “How good it is for brothers to dwell together in unity.” Leaders can help others find their place in the body, allowing God to do even more than we could ever imagine or think! Just as the horses pull more together, the body of Christ can do more when we find our niche and work coherently towards building His Kingdom. This is why it is important to be on a team – to ultimately build His Kingdom.
